Sketchcrawl 33

Oct. 15 '11 - first time participating in the international Sketchcrawl.
sketchcrawl.com   Went downtown to Montreal's Museum of Fine Art's inauguration of the new Bourgie Pavillion & Concert Hall that was previously the Erskine & American Church on Sherbrooke St.

We had planned to do lots of sketching, but there was so much to see...
Next time.

Worldwide Photowalk 2011

I was a participant in last year's Photowalk ... Old Montreal. Thoroughly enjoyed myself. This year I was signed up Oct 1 with the same group, for Mount Royal, a lovely place to wander. But... last minute decision to have one last trip to the lake in the Laurentians. Not at our Camp this time, tents folded away. Stayed at C&D's, a place of childhood summers which seemed eternal.

So... my Oct 1 photo pic(k)s...
Absolutely LOVE the Hipstamatic app... was given the phone to be able to use the camera. This was on the drive up...

No electricity at the cottage, no road, used to be no phone either, now cells everywhere. I think of mine as a camera first, phone last

Further thoughts on April 25's IFJM

May 24

Yesterday: Nestful (literally) of four little speckled Robins...

Today, they've all fledged.
Amazing, how quickly it all happened in a month.
We were lucky to share quick glimpses...

... not unlike the IFJM month of April.
Gives you the same sort of feeling as you see others' work - there, briefly in the big picture of things... and then, change of focus elsewhere. The time goes so quickly.

Thanks, Roz, for giving us this chance. Until next year!

IFJM 30

April 30

I wish this paper would be available in a more conservation-minded form. Love the colour, coverage & workability.

                                                              +

Thanks, Roz, for creating the IFJM, it's been great fun and an interesting learning curve. I was surprised to stall time-wise halfway through, and then able to pick up again in the last week after a busy spell of work passed. (I know, not a great way to manage - supposed to be on the day, not catch-up... I thought I could juggle it) Better to think out the details of the character ahead of time too, as suggested. I didn't enough. But thoroughly enjoyed it all the same.

I find the paper lovely to work on, and the colour easier as a beginning point than blank white paper! Likely just in my head... Once the next few days of work are done I will jump in with your Strathmore project... Thanks again.

A quick impression, from my visit there years ago. Such balance and rhythm. Dreams filled with water music.

Working in the garden, absolutely amazed to find a bird's nest [amongst the honeysuckle vine branches along the trellis], looks like from last year!! How did we miss it? Or is it new?

4:30 pm - Now it's occupied by a robin!

Turcot exchange (interchange) as it is today.
I never thought it had beauty until the talk to tear it down.

IFJM 19

April 19
On the 211. Stuck in traffic for 1 1/2 hours at turcotte [sic] due to emergency work. Poor lady in front fell asleep, had to wake her at the metro. At least someone gave her his seat 1 hour in.

Wish I could have asked her what her boots are, before she sat down & nodded off. They look great for work. Rugged yet comfortable I bet.

IFJM 7

April 7 - Freelance fashion, not my usual vein. But Keukenhof Gardens are as amazing as I remember in springtime. Even from 33 years ago, when I was here last.

IFJM 6

I realize how my life is saturated by the love of water & the urge to get out on it by working on these studies of the canal systems. Here they are so much less industrial, they have such character, and are such a welcome element within the community...

IFJM 2

April 2... Home, to find winter's receding into spring...

Still ice in the bay, by the way. Not enough room to do more than spin in circles, paddle-wise.

IFJM 1

First try at Roz Stendahl's International Fake Journal Month challenge, and first blog. Might as well dive right in...

The journal [fictional: IFJM stands for International Fake Journal Month - see Roz's linked image to right] is a running notation of dream jobs - freelance work in photography, film & painting for the non-existant Mindful Gallery, MF Publishing, and MF film, all in Montreal. The IFJM Blog postings are an extension of the fictional account.

Paper is one grocery bag, cut up. Lyra colour pencils, prismacolour fine line marker, ballpoint pen, pencil. Pages are 6 x 7 " To be bound when complete.

April 1
Stuck in the airport overnight - at least I found pencils  - thought I packed them.
The poster makes me want to paddle. Would Monet kayak in 2011?
